Atlantis, The Palm is a fancy hotel in the United Arab Emirates, sitting right at the tip of the Palm Jumeirah.

It opened on September 24, 2008, and it’s quite special because it’s the first hotel on the island. The hotel’s theme is inspired by the ancient myth of Atlantis, but it also has some Arabian touches.

In this blog, we will discuss all you need to know about Atlantis and will also tell you who is the owner of Atlantis Dubai.

Features of the hotel

The hotel is huge with amazing features. There are 1,548 rooms in total, split between two parts called the East and West Tower.

What’s interesting about this hotel is that it’s designed like a ship, so it feels like you’re on a nautical adventure.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! There’s also a super cool water park called Aquaventure where you can splash around all day.

The water park has some of the record-breaking slides that people visit from around the world.

It also has Lost Chambers Aquarium, where you can see over 65,000 underwater creatures.

Underwater Rooms at Atlantis

At Atlantis The Palm, there are two special rooms called the Poseidon and Neptune Underwater Suites.

They’re among just a few underwater hotel rooms worldwide, and people always talk about them because they’re so unique.

These suites are huge, about 165 square meters. The entrance part of the room is on the ground level, but when you go down, you’ll find the main bedroom and bathroom submerged underwater.

Imagine waking up surrounded by fish and other sea creatures right outside your window!

The windows are almost from the floor to the ceiling, so you get an amazing view of the resort’s Ambassador Lagoon, where all kinds of exotic sea creatures live.

Who is the owner of Atlantis Dubai?

Atlantis The Palm was launched on September 24, 2008, through a collaboration between Kerzner International Holdings Limited and Istithmar World.

Later in April 2012, Istithmar World took over Kerzner’s 50-percent ownership for $250 million, but Kerzner International Resorts still manages the property.

The brilliant minds behind the design were Conceptual Design Architects from Northpoint, South Africa, while the architectural work was handled by Wimberly, Allison, Tong, and Goo (WATG), a renowned international firm specializing in luxury hotels.

The main construction work was undertaken by Laing O’Rourke, a multinational construction company based in the United Kingdom.

They were in charge of both designing and building the impressive 23-story hotel and its accompanying water park.

The Launch of Atlantis

After the hotel was built by Laing O’Rourke, it officially opened on September 24, 2008. But right before the big day, there was a fire in the lobby! Luckily, they worked hard to fix everything in time.

For the opening, they put on a fantastic light show. They lit up the sky with 100,000 fireworks, which is way more than they used at the Beijing Olympics.

The fireworks were launched from all over the place, even from balconies at the hotel.

The whole event cost a lot, about £15 million! And they had Kylie Minogue perform for the guests. She got £2 million for singing for an hour. It was a huge event!

The Dolphin Bay

In October 2007, Atlantis The Palm received 28 bottlenose dolphins from the Solomon Islands. These dolphins were meant to be part of an aquarium exhibit called Dolphin Bay.

However, this move sparked criticism from various environmental groups. They were upset because the Solomon Islands government had previously banned the export of dolphins after a similar shipment to Mexico caused controversy.

The hotel managers assured everyone that the dolphins wouldn’t be used in shows or circus-like performances.

Instead, they would be trained to interact with visitors. They also emphasized that the dolphins’ health was their top priority.

Since bottlenose dolphins aren’t endangered, they believed there wasn’t an issue with bringing them in.

The deal was made with the approval of both the United Arab Emirates and Solomon Islands governments.

It was facilitated through a company called the Solomon Islands Marine Mammal Education Centre and Exporters Limited, which had successfully challenged the earlier export ban in court.
